About Mrs. Hughes

Art classes were the first place I found my love of school. These experiences made me the passionate teacher I am today. Over the past 21 years, I have taught art on every  secondary level and in three states. Currently, I’m the department chair for fine arts leading 15 typically artsy people at McKinney High School. I serve on the professional development design team and have led several teacher workshops for our campus and district. Through my own professional development, I see alternative applications of learning and achievement. I was the 2015 MHS Teacher of the Year and a Fulbright Memorial Fund Teacher Scholar selected as a guest of the Japanese government. I’ve attended AP Studio Art Institutes and iPadpalooza. I am a life-long learner. The greatest accomplishment I feel is when my students perform at a professional level and are recognized for their work. They have a love of art that will enrich their lives forever.

My husband Chris works as a graphic designer. Our two children, Gabe and Liv, attend Media Tech Institute and McKinney High now. Both show artistic talent.
